Firebird  is a complete space systems design project being completed by Mechanical Engineering students in the Mechanical and Aerospace Department at Utah State University.  It is a Senior Design Project fulfilling the MAE 487, 488, and 489 senior requirements.

In essence Firebird is a vehicle to study the effect of aerobraking and aeroassist maneuvers on space crafts.  The Firebird space craft will carry the necessary instruments to study these effects.  All Firebird design systems will be integrated into the small space craft to complete all mission objectives.

Objective:
To Design a low cost spacecraft that will measure specified aerobraking parameters over a wide range of reentry velocities to provide a data base sufficient to construct and validate mathematical models of aerobraking / aeroassist mission maneuvers.
